The packaging e.g. bottle return installation accepts and identifies the item, returning a deposit or token, and deposits it in a store. Mis-direction of lightweight items such as plastic bottles caused by air turbulence due to eddies among the guiding walls, is prevented by perforating the walls to a large extent to permit air to pass through the unit with little resistance. Items such as returnable bottles are deposited in an opening (A) in the front of the unit on to a conveyor (11). Photocells detect the presence and start the belt in motion. A system of internal walls (12) prevent the item being removed again. The item is transported to an identification area where a bar-code may be read and the relevant money or token returned to the depositor and the item directed to the appropriate storage area. The walls are perforated to the extent of about 50% to allow air currents to pass through with minimum obstruction, preventing eddy currents. |
