The procedure consists of allowing the used oil to pass drop by drop from a tank (1) via a control valve or tap (2) into a firebox (5). The firebox has an opening (6) to allow in air for appropriate oxygenation of the combustion process, while a chimney (4) leading from the firebox is heated to a height of 1.5 m, for example, so that the oil entering the firebox through the chimney is heated to a sufficient temperature to ensure proper combustion. In tests a chimney of 11 cm diameter, and a firebox with an inlet measuring 11 cm/8 cm could burn at least 10 litres of used oil in a 24 hour period, while a chimney of 1 m diameter and a firebox with an opening of 1.1 m/80 cm could burn 120 litres per 24 hours. The heat from the burning oil could also be used to heat water.
