Prodn of PVC or other thermoplastic joinery, partic. for door and window frames, with elastically deformable sealing fittings (10) mounted on the joinery profiles (16), comprises thermowelding together the profile ends by heating to soften ends then forcing them together. The seals (10) of non-thermoweldable material such as rubber e.g. EPDM are mounted in grooves or channels (14) in the profile, and left in place during thermowelding when the softened ends are pushed together. The ends of the seals are also pushed together and oppose the formation of a bead of thermoweldable material in the mounting channel zones of the profiles. The seals are mounted in the profile under tension giving a small elongation of about 1% and held so by friction. The seals have longitudinal, non-extensible cover embedded to limit elongation. |
