A method and device for reprocessing salt used for the temporary salting of products such as salted products or animal skins, characterised in that the salt is fed through an at least substantially horizontal rotating drum-type heat exchanger (1) with direct heat transfer with a hot gas circulating in a counter-flow direction and contacting the salt, and the operating parameters of the heat exchanger are adjusted in accordance with its dimensions while maintaining the discharge temperature of the gas within a range of 80 DEG C to 150 DEG C, wherein the salt is held in the exchanger for a period suitable for the drying and sterilization thereof.
