driving a scanner to test its operation by pushing the optical image reader testing key(2) in a waiting state of the facsimile; storing a white reference in a memory(12) after transforming it to the digital data with an A/D converter(8); counting the number of data which exceed the reference data by comparing the read data with the reference data, and calculating its ratio to the total number of read data; and outputting the calculated value to a data display unit.
