The protector, esp. for an addressable transducer (7) equipped with a number of micro-switches (14) to control its programming, is located in an independent housing (8), connected to the cable (1) inside a protective sleeve (2) by a tube (9) which puts the housing in electrical and pneumatic communication with the sleeve, which is at a given pressure set by dry compressed air. The transducer is designed to emit an electrical signal in accordance with pressure changes in the sleeve. Inside the housing (8) the transducer is located in a sealed compartment (15) separated by a supple and elastic wall (16) from the remainder of the housing (19) in which the air pressure is the same as that surrounding the cable. The sealed compartment is filled with a neutral gas at a pressure greater than that in the rest of the housing. The supple wall (16) of the compartment is of a synthetic, e.g. butyl rubber, or latex, and the neutral gas is nitrogen.
