The piston is mounted with a self-adjusting device for axial guidance in the cylinder lid (42). The guide device is an easily interchangeable bearing support (10) set in a recess of the cylinder lid. At least one support ring (12) can be mounted in the bearing support with a radially inwardly pointing first conical ring face (14). At least one bearing ring with a radially outwardly pointing second conical ring face (22) interacting with the first ring face consists of at least two identical bearing ring members (20) arranged with a clearance (29) relative to each other. A spring biased pressure ring (30) acts on the end face (24) of the bearing rings and produces a force component which acts in the axial direction and presses the bearing rings against the support ring.
