The structure comprises a backrest or occupant supporting member (2) that intersects with and is attached to a countersupporting member (4) in a manner that results in each bearing on the other. Armrests (A.P.) are disclosed as an integral part of the countersupporting member (4). The backrest member (2) is disclosed as straight, with a convex curve in the lower portion (L.P.) thereof to support an occupant's lumbar curve, with a bend between the upper and lower portion to orient the upper portion (U.P.) of the chair at a higher angle than the lower portion. A variety of methods of attaching the backrest member to the countersupporting member are disclosed, as are a number of ways of securing the leisure chair in an open position. Other embodiments are disclosed with a seat and legrest structure (3) attached to the occupant supporting member, and upholstery (12, 14 and 16) supported on the chair.
