<p>A device which can conveniently be carried all the time by its owner, and is available whilst there is some sunshine for igniting a combustible material such as a cigarette, can be used without danger. It consists of a parabolic mirror the support of which is of shockproof polystyrene. The reflecting surface is formed by a layer of aluminium, chromium, etc. The paraboloid is truncated by an inclined plane which is materialised in a protective plate of transparent plastic, and is pierced at its focal point to admit the cigarette. It can be carried in the pocket or worn as a pendant and an (advertising) slogan can be printed on its rear face.</p> |
