A bistable thumb-operated switch is designed for use in motor vehicle fascia panels. The thumb lever surface has a shallow 'V' shaped form and pivots on a sprung spherical end - piece terminating a triangular inward extension of the operating surface. The bistable action results from the movement of a shaft set within a cylinder on the underside of the operating surface. The shaft acts against a helical spring and moves via an end ball from one stable position to another. The switch has an internal lamp and can have a sound deadening filling.
