Automatic self steering system for yachts - has bevel gear system linking wind vane with self steering blade and rudder control

The yacht self steering system has a windvane (5) which rotates a first shaft (9). A second shaft (11) is rotated by a submerged blade (6). The second shaft (11) is mounted perpendicularly on an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the yacht. Bored gears are mounted on the shafts and mesh with a third gear mounted freely on a shaft parallel to the axis of the yacht. A friction clutch may be included to disengage the vane from its shaft. Oscillation of the second shaft is pref. transmitted to the rudder by lines.
