Pyrrolocarbazole derivatives represented by general formula (I) or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R<1> represents lower alkyl or aralkyl; R<2> represents hydrogen, optionally substituted lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or optionally substituted aralkyl; R<3>, R<4>, R<5>, R<6> and R<7> are the same or different and each represents hydrogen, halogeno, nitro, optionally substituted lower alkanoyl, NR<9>R<10> or OR<11>; and R<8> represents hydrogen or forms together with R<3> -CONR<12>-, provided that R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5>, R<6>, R<7> and R<8> do not represent hydrogen at the same time when R<1> is benzyl. The compounds have the effect of promoting the production of thrombocytes and thus are useful in the treatment of thrombocytopenia.
