BARRIER COMPOSITE FILM AND PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF

A barrier composite film is produced by forming, by coating, an inorganic layer made of silicon oxide or the like and a coating layer containing a silane coupling agent and a barrier resin (such as vinylidene chloride copolymer, ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer or the like) successively on at least one surface of a base film made of polyester or the like. The amount of the silane coupling agent added is about 0.05 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the barrier resin. A heat sealing layer may be formed on the coating layer or the other surface of the base film. Such a barrier composite film is excellent in transparency and can maintain its high gas-barrier properties and adhesion of the layers over a long period of time, even when the layers are thin. Further, the barrier properties and the adhesion of the layers are little lowered even when an external mechanical force is applied to the film or when the film is stored under the conditions of high temperature and humidity.
