A seismic safety activating mechanism is provided inside a housing (420) and includes an inertia ball recess (446) located within the housing (420), and an inertia ball (428) that has an unactuated position on the recess (446) and an actuated position displaced from the recess. The recess (446) is formed so that when the inertia ball (428) is in the recess (446), vibrations or seismic shocks of a predetermined magnitude cause the inertia ball (428) to move from the unactuated position to the actuated position. An engagement component (448) inside the housing (420) is provided for engagement with the inertia ball (428) when the inertial ball (428) is displaced from the unactuated position. A permanent magnet is provided exterior of the housing for manually moving the inertia ball (428) from the unactuated position to the actuated position to engage the engagement component (448).
