<p>A solar-powered ventilation module (30) for insertion between an existing standard beehive (10) and its existing standard cover (20). The module (30) houses electrical components and acts as a plenum. A thermostat (60) exposed to the beehive interior air controls a fan (80) when the inside air temperature exceeds a predetermined limit (preferably about 75 degrees plus or minus 5 degrees Fahrenheit). The fan (80) is controlled by the thermostat (60) and powered by a solar panel (100) either directly or by a battery (310) recharged by a solar panel (100). The fan induced ventilation helps control temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide level within the hive (10). A screen prevents bees from passing through the fan (80). Warm air is exhausted from the hive (10) and vented to the ambient air through a plurality of vents (90) in the perimeter wall (50) of the module (30), while cooler ambient air is drawn into the beehive (10) through existing hive openings.</p> |
