The system makes use of a carrier belt with a layer of paint which is released under heat and which is held taut above the plate to be painted. The strip is pressed against the plate by a roller, while strip and plate are moved simultaneously through the arrangement. The plate to be painted is mounted in a recess or a rectangular plate (11). Clamps (12, 16) on the sloping end faces of the mounting plate clamp the paint belt against the plate to be painted. The depth of the recess in the mounting plate (12) is less than the thickness of the plate so that the embossed parts protrude beyond the recess.
