Inductive ammeter for contactless current measurement

The ammeter includes two cores (10,12) each having a slot for placing over a current-carrying conductor (20), and with a common secondary winding (16) embracing both cores. The cores can be rotated relative to one another about a common axis (18) enabling the slots to line up and provide an opening for insertion of the conductor. The cores are disposed on a carrier body (14) also having a slot to allow insertion of the conductor. When rotated to close the slot at least one of the cores completely encloses the conductor. The ammeter can be made in the form of tongs.
