The invention concerns a plug connector system for connecting medium- or high-voltage cables (4, 5). The system in question comprises two complementary plug connector elements (2, 3) each of which is attached to one end of a cable. The plug connector elements are each provided with an inner conductive contact element (6, 7) and an outer insulating element (8, 9) surrounding the cable end. The insulating elements (8, 9) are provided with pressure surfaces (25, 26) which, when the plug connector system (1) is fitted together, are forced against one another. In the region of the pressure surface (25, 26), one insulating element (8) is flexible, while the other (9) is relatively hard. In the region surrounding the cable end, both insulating elements (8, 9) are flexible.
