Rapier drive pinion for rapier loom

A loom has sliding rapiers reciprocating into the shed which are of U-shaped cross-section (1, 2), with integral teeth to form a rack. The teeth mesh with a pinion (6) rotating in alternate directions and the rapiers are guided by rollers. The pinion (6) has a rim (9) with a flat running surface (9a) near the root diameter of the gear teeth (6a) which supports the free end of the U-section limbs (2a, 2b). The width of the running surface (9a) corresponds approx. to the thickness of the U-section limbs (2a, 2b).
