Target detection and tracking device for aircraft navigation

The target detection and tracking device involves individual images being obtained by a sensor (1) which are evaluated by an edge extractor (2). A point selector (3) and Hough transform processor (4) are connected to a tracker (5) which also determines two thresholds and selects the direction in the edge extractor. Grey scale images are segmented (6) and/or brightness variation is detected (7). Three-level images with grey scale values above and below that of the path being tracked undergo contour determination (8) and analysis (9). Crossings or other transverse segments of road are distinguished by comparison with a chosen route map in extended memory (11).
