PURPOSE:To adjust the phase matching condition in nonlinear mutual action using optical guide, by using high refractive index layer as the clad layer of optical guide and changing the propagation constant of optical wave propagating through the optical guide. CONSTITUTION:Suppose the thickness (t) of high refractive index layer to be 3000Angstrom and the difference DELTAno in refractive index between the core and substrate to be 7X10<-3>, the change in effective refractive index of TE wave and TM wave will be 5X10<-4>, and 1.3X10<-4>, respectively. Therefore, when considering the phase matching method by temperature, since the change in the property of being refracted due to the temperature of LiNbO3 is about 6X10<-5> per 1 deg.C, it corresponds to temperature change of more than 10 deg.C. When generating a second high frequency wave of 1.06 mum wavelength using 1 cm long LiNbO3 optical guide, since the half value total width of phase matching of the second high frequency wave output light intensity is less than 1 deg.C, a temperature change of more than 10 deg.C may permit adjustment of phase matching condition in a sufficiently wide range. |
