The method controls the left or right track of the caterpillar vehicle according to a signal from the steering levers to change the drive direction of the caterpillar vehicle. The method sets a non-sensitive area(D), a buffer area(H), and an operation area(O) at operation angles of the steering levers. If the levers are respectively set for the non-sensitive area(D) and the operation area(O), a drive signal is generated or not, respectively. If one of the levers is in the buffer area(H), there is no change in the driving state, but if the other one is driven in the buffer area(H), a control signal for changing the drive state is generated.
