PURPOSE:To prepare spherical polyethylene having a high bulk density and satisfactory powder characteristics in a high yield, by using a specified solid catalyst component and an organometallic compd. as a cocatalyst. CONSTITUTION:Polyethylene having a good particle shape is prepared in a high yield by using a catalyst system consisting of a solid catalyst component A obtained by reacting a homogeneous soln. of a compd. of the formula as shown (where R<1>, R<2> and R<4> are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; R<3> is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, an organosilanolate residue, a carboxylate residue, etc.; D is an electron donating compd.; a=0.01-20, b, c=0-2, and d=0-2/m; e=0.02-80, f=0.01-30, b+c+md=2+4a; m>=1) with an aluminum halide compd. and further reacting the product with a titanium halide compd. and at least one cocatalyst B selected from among organometallic compd. of Groups, Ia, IIa, IIIa, IIIb and IVb metals. |
