PURPOSE: To surely recognize the inquiry error of a commodity code on the terminal side by providing the retrieval means which retrieves whether the corresponding commodity code exists in a commodity information file or not in response to an inquiry from the terminal and transmits information indicating the absence of the corresponding commodity code to the terminal in the case of the absence of this code. CONSTITUTION: When PLU codes are inputted from bar code scanners of cash registers (ECR) 121 to 12n PLU codes are successively taken into a main key buffer, and a file controller 11 is inquired whether these codes are set in a PLU file 16 or not in the order of taking-in. If PLU codes are not set in the PLU file 16, ECRs 121 to 12n receive the negative responses from the file controller 11 and display the messages and inquiry PLU codes on display devices. Their contents are printed out by printers. |
