PURPOSE: To print an image in which both black and color printing areas coexist at a high speed by printing in a large printing width with the use of a black head for an area of only black data. CONSTITUTION: Printing is conducted using all nozzles arranged or part of them for a recording head 11 for black. For a recording head 12 for color, arranged nozzles are grouped corresponding to the number of colors used. Image data are read in advance, and the number of lines N1 is detected from the initial line to the line right before a line in which the first color data exist. The number N1 is compared with the number of lines N2 corresponding to the height of a group of color heads, and if N1 is larger than N2, image data for N1 lines from the initial line of read image data are printed with a black head. If N1 is not larger than N2, image data for N2 lines are printed by driving both color and black heads. |
