PURPOSE: To obtain the subject phthalocyanine having high sensitivity and a contrasty sensitive property, useful as a photosensitizer for electrophotography, etc., by dry-grindingα-from non-metallic phthalocyanine to transform crystal and heat-treating it in the range not transforming toβ-form. CONSTITUTION: This non-metallic phthalocyanine is obtained by dry-grindingα-form non-metallic phthalocyanine to transform to a crystal form having photoconductivity and heat-treating it in a temperature range not transforming toβ-form (preferably 150-250 deg.C). As the crystal form having the photoconductivity, a non-metallic phthalocyanine having only two clear diffraction peaks in the range of Bragg's angles to Cu-KαX-ray of 21-25 deg. (allowance range:±0.2 deg.) is especially preferable. The photosensitizer for electrophotography is obtained by containing this phthalocyanine in a photoconductive layer.
