PURPOSE: To obtain a color filter with which the power consumption of a color liquid crystal display element is decreased and a sharp and bright color display can be obtd. CONSTITUTION: This filter is designed in such a manner that the wavelength region of transmitted light is divided into three kinds of wavelength regions when the objective color is displayed. These regions are a first wavelength region used to display the objective color, a second wavelength region which is used to display other colors and does not decrease the chroma of the objective color, and a third wavelength region which is used to display other colors and decreases the chroma of the objective color. The average transmittance in each wavelength region T1 , T2 , T3 for the first, second and third wavelength regions, respectively, satisfy the relation of T1 >T2 >T3 . |
