PURPOSE: To prevent such a problem that an image carrier meanders and it is damaged in the midst of a printing action because a bead gets over a bead stopper while a process cartridge is transported and to drastically enhance the workability when the image carrier is assembled. CONSTITUTION: As for the tension mechanism of the image carrier 1, a cam 6 is constituted so that the fixing position of a tension roller 4 is provided with a first position where the carrier 1 can be exchanged in a state where the tension of the carrier 1 is perfectly released, a second position where the process cartridge can be transported in a state where the small quantity of tension is imparted to the carrier 1 and a third position where the printing action can be executed by the process cartridge in a state where the tension is perfectly imparted to the carrier 1.
