PURPOSE: To protect a lock-up clutch against a slip resulting from the dispersion of quality at the time of manufacture or a change with the lapse of time, during a travel on inertia, and prevent the occurrence of an engine stall effectively under the sudden operation of a brake. CONSTITUTION: When a vehicle is judged as traveling on inertia, based on a transmission output rotation number No detected with a transmission output rotation sensor 13, the lock-up clutch of a torque converter 2 is lowered in engagement capacity. When a lock-up clutch slip results therefrom, the engagement capacity is corrected for further clutch engagement by the preset correction value, only over the preset range of a correction frequency or a correction interval. Also, lock-up control is implemented, when the slip disappears as a result of the correction. |
