PURPOSE: To provide a radio communication system and a radio communication portable information terminal to enable a user to automatically confirm the incoming of the data addressed to his own terminal with no consciousness of these data. CONSTITUTION: When a display part 19 lights up, a PHS terminal 6 automatically transmits a request signal to a service management station 2 of a telephone circuit network 4 via a radio base station 5 to confirm whether the voice mail addressed to the terminal 6 itself is stored in a data base 3 included in the network 4. Receiving the request signal, the station 2 sends a data presence/absence signal back to the terminal 6 to show the presence or absence of a voice mail addressed to the terminal 6. If the data presence/absence signal shows that the voice mail addressed to the terminal 6 has been received, the terminal 6 shows this fact at the part 19.
