PURPOSE: To obtain an optically active sulfoxide compound for medical and agricultural chemicals, a liquid crystal, etc., in high optical purity and high yield by reacting a microorganism having reductase or extract thereof with a sulfoxide compound of a racemic modification in the presence of an electron transfer material. CONSTITUTION: A microorganism having a reductase (e.g. Clostridium thermoaceticum ATCC 35608) or extract thereof is added to 0.1M phosphoric acid buffer solution and an aqueous solution of an electron transfer material composed of a compound having from -100 to -700mV standard oxidation- reduction potential (e.g. benzylbiologen) is added, and further a sulfoxide compound of a racemic modification (e.g. methylphenyl sulfoxide) is added, then isopropyl ether is injected and reacted with shaking at 55 deg.C for 8hr, thus an optically active substance is separated by subjecting a substrate in the organic solvent into an optical isomer-separating column to readily obtain the objective optically active sulfoxide compound useful for a raw material, etc., of medical and agricultural chemicals, a liquid crystal, etc., in high optical purity and high yield. |
