PURPOSE: To obtain a silicon-containing ladder polymer useful as a flame- resistant material, a heat-resistant material, an electroconductive material and a nonlinear optical material by reacting a 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(hydrosilyl)benzene with a cyclic diyne in the presence of a platinum catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(hydrosilyl)benzene of formula I (R<1> is a 1-12C alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R<2> is H, a 1-20C alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy, alkoxymethyl or alkenyl) (e.g. a 1,2,4,5tetrakis(dimethylsilyl)benzene, etc.) is reacted with a cyclic diyne of formula II (R<3> and R<4> are each an alkylene, an arylene, an aralkylene, CH2 OCH2 , CH2 CH2 OCH2 CH2 , etc.) (e.g. 1,8-cyclotetradecadiyne) in the presence of a platinum catalyst [e.g. tetrakis(diphenylmethylphosphine) platinum, etc.] to give the objective silicon-containing ladder polymer of formula III ((n) is a positive integer) useful as a flame-resistant material. |
