An oven for heating a series of freshly printed pages of paper comprises a pair of flat plates mounted on opposite sides of the path along which the pages are advanced stepwise, so that the plates converge in rhythm with the paper motion to apply a hot flat surface to the page. Pref. the hot plate is of aluminium and supports an electrical resistance heater set between layers of glass cloth impregnated with epoxy resin. Pref. the pressure plate is of steel covered with a layer of polyurethane foam beneath an external cover of polyester film or fabric. Used esp. for fixing images prepd. by a facsimile machine (e.g. from telephone data signals). Adaptable to horizontal paper output or vertical output in either direction. The conductive heaters provide more uniform heating than radiant heater, is more adaptable to paper of varying length than a rotary drum heater.
|
