PURPOSE: To easily and inexpensively produce a superplastic silicon carbide sintered product improved in superplasticity, such as a complicated shape part which has been difficult in the processing, by adding a sintering auxiliary having a particle boundary phase in a specific amount to silicon carbide particles having a fine particle size. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing the superplastic silicon carbide sintered product comprises adding 2-15wt.% of glass or crystal phase-having glass comprising the oxides of Si and one or more of Al, rare earth metals and alkaline earth metals as a sintering auxiliary agent having a particle boundary phase to 85-98wt.% of a silicon carbide particles containing particles having particle diameters of >=0.5μm in an amount of <=3wt.% and having an average particle diameter of <=0.3μm, and subsequently sintering the mixture at 1,500-1,950 deg.C under a pressure of 100-1,000kg/cm<2> in an inert gas atmosphere. The obtained superplastic sintered product has a deformation rate of >=10<-4> /sec under a compression or tensile stress of 50-2,000kg/cm<2> at 1,600-1,800 deg.C. |
