Date Jan. 21, 1993The invention relates to a system and method for the preparation of sets of patterns from which material is cut and garments produced from the cut material. Each of the patterns has formed thereon stitchlines and a number of the stitchlines are to be joined together to form a seam. The invention lies in the provision of an ease factor in the stitchlines to allow for stretch and irregularity in the material, wherein the ease factor is calculated as a percentage of a designated dominant stitchline and included in the lengths of the subservient stitchlines which are to be joined to the dominant stitchline to form the seam. The sets of patterns can be input to a computer, graded for different size of garments and the ease factors checked by computer.
