PURPOSE: To eliminate the destruction of the meaning contents of a document when document data using external characters are taken out to another document processor by replacing the used external characters with standard characters. CONSTITUTION: A CPU 2 stores shape data on a generated external character in a shape data part in an external character memory 8. Then the code of a replaceable standard character is inputted on a keyboard 4 and stored in a substitute character code part in the external character memory 8. When a key for converting the external character into the standard character is pressed on the keyboard 4 at the time of the processing of a document using the external character, the CPU 2 searches the external character memory 8 for the external character in the document and decides whether or not the standard character code corresponding to the external character is stored in the substitute character code part. Then when it is decided that the character code is stored, it is replaced with the standard character according to the stored information at the substitute character code part. |
