PURPOSE:To increase an estimated accuracy and to improve the efficiency of predicted coding, by predicting the optimum predicting system at the next picture element appearing time taking into consideration the spacial distribution of the optimum prediction system corresponding to the picture element has been coded. CONSTITUTION:A multivalue picture decoded at an adder 24 is obtained by using the multivalue picture predicted and coded through transmission and the output prediction signal of the selector 26. By using the decoded multivalue picture signal, a plurality of prediction signals by different prediction system from the prediction device 25 is produced. From a plurality of prediction signals and decoded multivalue signal, they are respectively compared at the decision circuit 28 of optimum prediction system and the ordering of the adaptability of the prediction system to a plurality of prediction signals is made. This order is stored over a plurality of picture element appearing time, and the prediction sytem used for the next picture element time is decided at the judgement circuit 31, and the prediction signals are selected and output. |
