PURPOSE: To obtain magnesia-carbon brick further improved in spalling resistance by incorporating carbon fibers in a refractory material while suppressing spring back development. CONSTITUTION: This magnesia-carbon brick is obtained by incorporating 100 pts.wt. of a composition comprising 70-98wt.% of a basic refractory material predominant in magnesia and 2-30wt.% of a carbonaceous material with 0.5-10 pts.wt. of carbon fibers and 0.5-6 pts.wt. of aluminum fibers or aluminum alloy fibers. For another version of this brick, i.e., low-carbon magnesia-carbon brick, 100 pts.wt. of a composition comprising 92-98wt.% of the basic refractory material predominant in magnesia and 2-8wt.% of the carbonaceous material is incorporated with 0.5-5 pts.wt. of carbon fibers and 0.5-6 pts.wt. of aluminum fibers or aluminum alloy fibers. |
