PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder-free loose packing insulator having an excellent packing property, hat insulating property, compressibility, and restoring property by making the insulator of irregularly-shaped glass fibers composed of two kinds of glass having different coefficients of thermal expansion. SOLUTION: Irregularly-shaped three-dimensionally twisted double glass fibers 100 and 110 are made of two kinds of glass having different coefficients of thermal expansion by using rotary or direct fiber forming method. Then a loose packing insulator is manufactured without using any binder by coating the glass fibers 100 and 110 with a mineral oil, a quaternary ammonium slat, or their mixture as a dust suppressing agent/electrification preventing agent. The insulator has a K-value of <0.0576 w/m.K at a density of 8.0 kg/m<3> and effective fiber diameter of 5 μm and the density of the insulator is adjusted to <24 kg/m<3> so that a side wall having a thickness of 89 mm can have an R-value of 13. Since this insulator can be installed at a density of about 4.8-9.6 kg/m<3> after it is once compressed to a density of about 192-288 kg/m<3> , the restoration ratio of the insulator is about 24:1 to about 50:1. |
