Desulphurising a gas contg. H2S comprises feeding the gas through a bed of a metal oxide catalyst and then through a final purifying bed. Elementary sulphur is deposited on the metal oxide catalyst and in the purifying bed, and is removed by regenerating at time intervals. The final purifying bed is a filter bed for adsorbing elementary sulphur. The filter bed consists of a granular adsorbent different from the metal oxide catalyst. The gas emerging from the catalyst is fed to the filter bed at 20-180 degrees C, and contains 250 mg elementary sulphur per Nm<3> gas. Desulphurised gas is withdrawn from the filter bed, which contains not more than 30% elementary sulphur at the inlet to the filter bed.
|
