Process for the manufacture of a non-rotting solid fuel material from wastes, in particular domestic wastes, according to which the wastes are first passed to a shredder and are then subjected to an operation for the removal of batteries in a device which brings about their almost complete extraction for the recovery of their raw materials. The waste is then passed to a grinder after ferrous metals have been extracted by magnetic selection. The wastes are then subjected to the following operations: particle size sorting, sorting by density, separation of plastics materials, incorporation of quicklime in a mixer, granulation and heat treatment. A biologically stable combustible material having an adjustable calorific value which can be maintained constant even if the initial composition of the wastes varies is obtained. <IMAGE>
