The electrode assembly consists of two electrodes (6, 7) with facing edges forming a gap (8) along the line of the welded joint. The edges are shaped so that the width of the gap varies between the inner (6b, 7b) and outer (6c, 7c) faces of the electrodes, first increasing in an inner zone (12), then decreasing sharply in an intermediate zone (13), and then increasing again in the outer zone (14). One of the electrodes (6) has two flat surfaces (16a, 16b) for the inner and outer zones, and a connecting surface (17) between them which lies perpendicular to the welded joint. The other electrode (7) has a single flat surface which lies at an angle to the joint. |
