PURPOSE: To start a switch type reluctance motor accurately without requiring an absolute rotary encoder by performing open loop control up to a reference position of the rotor and then performing closed loop control. CONSTITUTION: Electrical angle of a rotor 2 is divided equally by 16 to form electrical ranges 1-16. A reference position is then set (as shown by a block point) for the electrical angle of the rotor 2. When exciting current supply to the exciting coil of a switch type reluctance motor is started, phase order of the exciting current is set such that the rotor 2 rotates in predetermined direction before an open loop control is performed. After a specific position representative of the reference position is detected by detection means 21, electrical angle 15 determined based on the reference position and an increment signal before closed loop excitation control is started. With such arrangement, accurate starting can be realized without requiring an absolute rotary encoder. |
