JOINT ARITHMETIC SYSTEM FOR OBJECT-ORIENTED DATA BASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

PURPOSE: To efficiently process such an inquiry that includes the pointer reference in an inquiry conditional expression in an object-oriented data base management system. CONSTITUTION: A pointer retrieval means 104 retrieves all pointers pointing the joint keys described in an inquiry conditional expression out of a data base 103 before a joint arithmetic operation is carried out. Then the means 104 generates the pointer sets 107a and 107b to the joint keys. A joint arithmetic means 105 acquires the value of joint keys from the base 103 by means of the sets 107a and 107b and at the same time performs the joint arithmetic operation to evaluate the inquiry conditional expression by a hash division method.
