The height adjusting device is intended for a mining cutter roller and has a roller support arm. The latter is fitted with an oil pump for forced circulation lubrication of gears, mounted in the arm. The suction side of the pump is connected to an oil sump by a gravity controlled valve. Preferably the controllable valve is coupled to weights, mounted with a presettable stroke in a guide extending in the arm horizontal direction in a sliding manner. Each weight may affect the valve adjusting member via a two-arm lever. A spherical sleeve may form the guide.
