The equipment for the assembly of pipes under water consists of a caisson made up of two halves (1,2) separated by a vertical joint (4) with a half circle cut out to allow the passage of the pipe ends (5) into the caisson. The joints are made watertight by the force of the external hydrostatic pressure and the interior of the caisson can then be pumped dry.
