PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunable silicon-based waveguide for a light tuner in general, particularly for a light bench router. SOLUTION: A silicon-based material is used to form a device enabling a waveguide bench router to be tuned. This device can be realized by adding a triangular amorphous silicon hydride (a-Si:H) layer as an active zone 30 across a waveguide. Current across the triangular material is changed and as a result, the refraction factor of the layer changes, thereby causing the change of the delay of a signal passing through the material. According to this construction, the elements of the III-V family or lithium niobate as a tunable element can be eliminated. Also, coupling efficiency increases and cost is reduced. |
