PURPOSE: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of making brightness constant, regardless of the discharge of a discharge path, even in a discharge lamp, wherein the distance of the discharge path between a cathode and an anode is different, by providing plural anodes to a common cathode without enlarging a device. CONSTITUTION: The positive electrode of a D.C. power source E is connected to the anodes A1-A6 of a discharge lamp FL via ballast resistances R1-R6 and the series circuit of transistors Q1-Q6 respectively. The negative electrode of the source E is connected to one common cathode C. In displaying the image, a base electric current, to be adopted as an image signal, is supplied to the bases of the transistors Q1-Q6, and any of the transistors Q1-Q6 is turned on to cause discharging, between the anodes A1-A6 and the cathode C, to light the lamp. Discharge is made between the anodes A1-A6 different in a discharge path length and the cathode C, the portion, having a long discharge path length, is discharged in a condition having large lamp electric currents with on-duty lengthened; and the portion, having a short discharge path length, is discharged in a condition having a small lamp electric currents with the on-duty shortened. |
