PURPOSE: To eliminate the circuit for preventing surge current by connecting a first diode in reverse polarity to the output polarity of a full-wave rectification circuit and connecting a second diode in forward polarity with respect to the output polarity of the full-wave rectification circuit. CONSTITUTION: When the power converter is applied to the lighting unit for discharge lamp, a commercial AC power supply is connected with the input terminal of a full-wave rectifier circuit 42 having output terminals connected with a capacitor 43 and a first half-wave switch circuit 45 through a first diode 44. A series circuit of second and third half-wave switch circuits 47, 48 constituting an inverter circuit along with a smoothing capacitor 46 is also connected in parallel. A series circuit of first choke coil 49 and second diode 50 is connected between the joint of the cathode of first diode 44 and the first half-wave switch circuit and the joint of second and third half-wave switch circuits 47, 48. Since no surge current is generated when power is turned ON, surge current prevention circuit can be eliminated. |
