PURPOSE: To provide a document summarizing device capable of reducing the mental burdens of a user at the time of setting the size of a summary sentence. CONSTITUTION: The user inputs operation information for resizing a window and the operation information for scrolling the window, etc., by a window control input means 101 and a window control means 102 resizes a window size and scrolls the window based on the inputted operation information. A summary size calculation means 103 calculates the character number of a summarized document to be prepared by a document summarizing means 104 based on the resized size of the window and the scroll speed of the window. The document summarizing means 104 summarizes a document so as to be the character number closest to the character number within the character number calculated by the summary size calculation means 103. A display means 105 displays the summarized document and an object document holding means 106 stores the document summarized by the document summarizing means 104.
